A 1950s instructional video from AT&T offers lessons in the then forthcoming new dial-direct technology. Users are taught how to recognize a dial tone, and how to understand telephone numbers and how to dial them.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about this video is to contrast it with the one from about 30 years earlier, discussed in Dial M for Mouse.
