As ebooks seems to finally approach mainstream status, Mac Slocum writes Open-ended Publishing and reminds us that adapting to new modes requires mental shifts, including discarding outdated practices. Specifically, the idea that books are frozen in time when they debut on the "publish date." Public accountability and the fluidness of digital publishing have already changed the game, even if some of us don't realize it yet.
