Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing
Comic Life for instructional design
Creating job aid sheets, which are typically short and very task-specific, is an area of technical writing that is sometimes overlooked. But, it's a critical part of some instructional design jobs and can really make a big difference in the day-to-day working life of the employees who use them. If your corporate culture permits it, one way to spruce up the aids you create is to use Comic Life. It's an application that is currently included with new Macs, but you can buy it separately or get a Windows version. A tutorial on storytelling with Comic Life will get you started, and might provide additional inspiration for other uses, too. (Task-based instruction is, after all, one way to tell a story, right?) And if none of this grabs you, then you might just enjoy perusing a selection of fun things that Comic Life users have posted to the Comic Life on Flickr group.
