A look at DITA and help
Tony Self's DITA for Help article provides a detailed analysis of using the open structured writing system to create Windows HTML Help. Self concludes that DITA isn't up to the task, but that's almost entirely because of various Windows implementation details. If you're authoring for a more standards-based help system, it seems you'll have fewer roadblocks, but Self's examination is sure to help you, too.
