Counterfeit manuals complete the package
A message on Techwrl-l points out that some software counterfeiters go to the trouble of printing fake manuals to go with their fake CDs and packaging. Unlike some customers, I imagine that the thieves are probably happier now that most companies have almost completely eliminated printed documentation, it certainly lowers their cost of goods. On the other hand, with most companies making PDF copies of their documentation freely available, producing a high-quality phony quite simple. Perhaps this is why the presence, or lack thereof, of printed documentation isn't an indicator of a product's provenance.
