Grammar Girl's Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing
Easing the pain of translation
If you're producing your onscreen help files using HTML authoring tools, then you know the pain of having to translate the marked-up files to other languages. Separating the HTML tags from the content for the purpose of translating the text, then re-constituting the final mark-up is a delicate and time-consuming process. The best way to resolve the problem is to avoid it entirely by authoring with a tool that allows you to write without regard to final format. However, if you're not able to do that, then Stormdance's CatsCradle might do the trick. The free tool for Windows and Mac OS X manages translation of web pages, and even includes support for Microsoft Help CHM files.
